SELFIE (english)

In Selfie Konopka enters the depths of his personal emotional universe, leaving out the importance of exteriority and form to emphasize essence, to what he wants to glimpse of that self still to be discovered, to be explored, to leave to be revealed. The meaning of the painting lies in the research itself, in the abandoning of the figurative element that seems to be inextricably linked to the title itself, to enter the universe more impalpable of the soul to which the artist feels the impulse to give voice. The soft colors of the celestial shades are mixed with the more decisive red and black, the scratching is strong, incisive, impetuous, almost as if to describe the alternation of emotions that are accumulated in our most intimate part, which stratify in the course of circumstances and events and give rise to the people we will become a moment later. The courage to look down at those impetuosity, to look into that vortex of sensations, becomes a need to confront them, take note of them and overcome them to become more aware.

Vanarasi (Rower from Varanasi)

2014

The first year in which Konopka discovers an unexpected inclination towards painting, coincides with the period of detachment from reality until recently experienced, to know himself through the journey. From the Way of Santiago, revelatory moment of his new artistic identity, he moves towards the East where he visits places that remain forever in his interior life. Varanasi work tells the enchantment he perceived in observing simple everyday life of the woman who paddles on the typical canoe with all the naturalness of those who perform that action every day, with serenity and tranquility, in the calm of having everything already sure, everything already planned, without wishing for the impossible but loving the possible. From the stylistic point of view the work is very tied to the figuration, the image is clear, even if the color, fresh, vivid and bright, already begins to tend towards Expressionism, both for the chosen tonalities and for the fast brushstroke, urgent, that fades out the contours with a linear, almost geometric yet faceted, fragmented as to want to decompose and recompose the image according to Konopka’s feeling. The scene thus appears to be moving, even if the focus is on the image of the woman who captures the attention of the observer who, a moment later, expands to everything else, from the slow river to the objects she brings with her, from the oars skillfully used to the canoe below her.

KATMANDU (english)

2015

Artwork Katmandu is still linked to the most figurative period of Konopka, in fact it is evident the image of the seated man, an elderly Nepalese man intent on his daily prayer, a common image and in the memory of whoever visits those enchantable faraway places. The artist appears captivated by the simplicity of the gesture, by the concentration and careful devotion with which the man dedicates himself to his task, yet it begins to emerge strongly from Konopka’s style, the emotional component, more irrepressible, more impelling, shoreless and capable of transforming the creative act into a manifestation of the most intimate, most interior self. The journey towards Expressionism becomes more incisive in this painting, and begins to mix with the need for abstraction from the clear and defined boundaries of the observed reality, a synergy that is revealed with the lines that Konopka imprints on the canvas by passing the brush after having painted the basic image, as if to suggest that what you feel is much more important than what you see. The basis of remembrance, even when he rethinks its pilgrimages in the world, is sensation, that perceiving all what the eye cannot see because it is only through the connection with sensitivity that it is possible to deepen and listen as much as we see has to tell us, send us, leave us so as not to be forgotten.

KATMANDU ( italiano)

2015

WINDOW (english)

2017

In this painting, Konopka enters the most introspective phase, the one in which he feels the need to immerse himself after having discovered and welcomed the pleasure of an emotion that has now come to light, so the next in-depth analysis is the one which delves even inside of his own fears, his own ghosts, his own shadows and consequently also the chromatic range is tinged with darker shades, as mysterious as it is what will emerge after having looked inside that window that faces the soul of which it talks the title of the artwork. Here the grattage is in a mildly way because the glance is already beyond, it does not need to delve to reach the place where everything is revealed, on the contrary the color is laid out in a rather fluid way, as if the artist were to slip towards that inside that remains attached to the external colors, and therefore to the pleasure of discovery, despite the awareness of having to cross the darkness of what has long remained under layers of defensive barriers and existential uncertainties. The aknowlegment is that of the importance of a journey that will then lead to a fundamental evolution, necessary, to inner growth.
